Woman arrested with 3,900 slabs of suspected Indian Hemp at Ada
According to a statement from the Tema Regional Police Command, the arrest was made on June 25, 2025, during a targeted operation that intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12.
A 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, is in police custody after being arrested for the alleged possession of a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs at Dogo Junction, near Ada in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a statement from the Tema Regional Police Command, the arrest was made on June 25, 2025, during a targeted operation that intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly abandoned the truck and fled upon seeing law enforcement officers. A search of the vehicle revealed a staggering 3,900 compressed slabs of substances, neatly wrapped in cello tape and packed into 52 sacks. Initial assessments suggest the material is Indian hemp.
Preliminary investigations point to Sophia Amankwa as the alleged owner of the suspected drugs. She is currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the driver and any other individuals who may be linked to the operation.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and related crimes, assuring the public that efforts will be intensified to disrupt such illegal networks across the region.
