Wa Brutalities: GAF to deal with deviant soldiers

A video surfaced on Thursday, July 1, 2021, in which armed military officers could be seen brutalizing some residents of Wa. Multiple reports indicate that this was over a missing mobile phone.

The Ghana Armed Forces have indicated that it will deal with the soldiers who brutalized some residents of Wa on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

In a statement released on Friday, July 2, 2021, the GAF noted that the “unprofessional conduct” of the military officers took place “at a time when the Commanding Officer of the soldiers and the Chairman of the Regional Security Council were both out of town on official engagements.”

The statement, signed by the Director of Public Relations of the GAF, Col. E Aggrey-Quarshie further indicates that the Chief of the Army Staff is leading a high powered military delegation to Wa to meet the traditional and opinion leaders [and] to find an amicable way of resolving this unfortunate incident. The delegation will also explore means to assuage the anger of the people and promote good neighborliness.”

Meanwhile, the GAF has also noted that disciplinary measures have been instituted internally to ensure that the soldiers who are found culpable would be appropriately dealt with.
