Police in the Volta Region have arrested two men for robbing a commercial motorbike rider in Kudzeagbakorpe, a community located close to Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality.

The statement from the Police indicates that the suspects  contracted the victim, Awudi Kwame , to transport them from Tadzewu to Ave-Dakpa. This happened at about 2:30pm on September 28, 2021.

The suspects have been identified as 31-year-old Michael Maccatus and 25-year-old Wisdom Agbotokpo.

According to the Police, the two attacked Awudi with a cutlass and a jackknife which they had concealed. Awudi subsequently sustained various wounds.

He however managed to place a distress call to his colleagues in Tadzewu which led to the arrest of the suspects at Kudzeagbakorpe. The Police believe the two were trying to escape with the motorbike at the time of their arrest.

The Police statement indicated that “while in transit at Ative near Tadzewu, the suspects ordered the victim to stop and he obliged. They further ordered him to surrender his motorbike keys which he declined. At that instance, the suspects attacked the victim with their weapons and inflicted wounds on his head, but the victim managed to escape into the bush with the motorbike key”.

Meanwhile, the two have been handed over to the police. The weapons and the motorbike have also been retrieved.

The victim has been treated and discharged from the hospital.
