UPSA alumnus files suit seeking to injunct new VC investiture
The investiture, planned for Friday, 27th December, has been met with controversy following allegations regarding the legitimacy of Professor Mawutor’s academic promotion.
A former student of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Rashid Ibrahim, has taken legal action to stop the upcoming investiture of Professor John Kweku Mensah Mawutor as the institution's next Vice-Chancellor.
The investiture, planned for Friday, 27th December, has been met with controversy following allegations regarding the legitimacy of Professor Mawutor’s academic promotion.
In his legal filing, Mr. Ibrahim argues that Professor Mawutor’s promotion to the rank of Associate Professor was flawed and lacked proper justification. He claims this irregularity disqualifies Professor Mawutor from serving as Vice-Chancellor.
Challenging the validity of the appointment process, Mr. Ibrahim asserts that it was fundamentally compromised. As part of his lawsuit, he has called on the court to issue an injunction to halt the scheduled ceremony.
Mr. Ibrahim maintains that this legal intervention is necessary to prevent what he views as the endorsement of an unqualified candidate for the university’s highest leadership position.
Court documents have been officially delivered to the UPSA Registrar, placing the university in a state of anticipation as it awaits further developments in the case.
The legal dispute has garnered significant attention within academic circles, with observers keen to see how the court’s ruling could influence the university’s future leadership and governance.
