An Accra High Court has adjourned the trial of Safina Mohammed Adizatu, a University of Ghana student accused of murdering her Canadian boyfriend, to February 27, 2025.
The adjournment was necessary as the court awaited directives from the Chief Justice on forming a seven-member jury for the case.
Safina, also known as Safina Diamond, was a first-year student at the University of Ghana at the time of the alleged crime. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder and remains out on bail.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on July 24, 2022, when Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian citizen residing in Canada, visited Safina at her home in Ashalley Botwe School Junction. He reportedly spent the night there.
During his stay, Safina and her alleged accomplices are said to have stabbed and strangled him. They then attempted to cover up the crime by cleaning the blood and leaving his body inside the room for a day before moving it downstairs near his vehicle.
Later, Safina reportedly called the police, claiming her boyfriend had died in her home. Upon arrival, officers found Osei’s body outside the residence.
Authorities arrested Safina, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
