Two remanded over alleged killing of suspected burglar in Wenchi
The suspects, Mufatawu Seidu, 18, an electrician, and Salifu Abubakar, 22, a sprayer, are alleged to have been part of a group that assaulted Ibrahim Abu at Wenchi in the Bono Region.
Two young men have been remanded into prison custody by the Wenchi Magistrate Court over the alleged killing of an 18-year-old man accused of stealing a mobile phone.
The suspects, Mufatawu Seidu, 18, an electrician, and Salifu Abubakar, 22, a sprayer, are alleged to have been part of a group that assaulted Ibrahim Abu at Wenchi in the Bono Region.
The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Issah Wahab, remanded them to reappear on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Police say they are still searching for other alleged accomplices, including a suspect identified only as “Achimota.”
Chief Inspector John Agyare, prosecuting, told the court that the matter was reported to the Wenchi Police Station on July 31, 2026, by the deceased’s mother, Hawa Seidu, a trader.
She was accompanied by one Sadia Yusif.
According to the prosecution, Ibrahim Abu returned home on July 22 and told his mother that about 15 young men had assaulted him after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone.
The group was allegedly led by “Achimota,” who is currently on the run.
Chief Inspector Agyare said “Achimota” allegedly used a taser to repeatedly shock the deceased during the assault.
After the incident, Ibrahim reportedly complained of severe body pains.
Nine days later, on July 31, at about 9:00 a.m., he fell unconscious and was rushed to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers later proceeded to the hospital and found his body on a stretcher in front of the mortuary, covered with a bed sheet.
The body has since been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Investigators say efforts are underway to arrest “Achimota” and the other alleged accomplices linked to the attack.
