Two Nigerians granted GH¢1m bail each for online fraud, money laundering
Solomon David King and Kingsley Okokon Etuk, both aged 48, were each granted GH¢1 million bail, to be justified with two sureties supported by title deeds, per the ruling of Her Honour Susana Eduful.
The Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to two Nigerian nationals accused of running a high-value online fraud scheme and laundering the proceeds through vehicles and property acquisitions.
Solomon David King and Kingsley Okokon Etuk, both aged 48, were each granted GH¢1 million bail, to be justified with two sureties supported by title deeds, per the ruling of Her Honour Susana Eduful. They pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, defrauding by false pretences, and money laundering.
According to prosecutors led by DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, the accused allegedly defrauded two foreign nationals—Mr. Gommarie Michele (USA) and L. Anthony (Canada)—of $715,000 USD between 2020 and 2025.
The accused purportedly convinced the victims that they could facilitate the acquisition and shipment of goods worth over $12 million USD. Payments were made in tranches via money transfers and intermediaries in the USA and Togo. The victims were eventually lured to Togo under the guise of receiving the consignment, but were defrauded of additional sums. The consignment never existed.
Investigations revealed that proceeds were allegedly laundered into personal assets:
King reportedly purchased a Hyundai Elantra (AW 3144-13).
Etuk allegedly bought a Toyota Camry (KWL 359 HZ) and a five-hectare farm in Suhum, Eastern Region.
Both now face separate charges under Section 1(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2007 (Act 749).
