Two more suspects held over Adabraka daylight robbery, says IGP
He disclosed the latest arrests at a ceremony in Accra on Thursday, 8 January, where 100 new vehicles were officially handed over to the Ghana Police Service.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, says two additional suspects have been picked up over the gun attack and robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, in November 2024.
He disclosed the latest arrests at a ceremony in Accra on Thursday, 8 January, where 100 new vehicles were officially handed over to the Ghana Police Service.
According to Mr Yohunu, the two men were tracked and arrested at Ashaiman at dawn, following months of intelligence-led surveillance mounted after the robbery.
The suspects have been named as Hamza Agrigo, also known as Nene Bawku, and Alhassan Eliasu, alias Arab Man. Police say they were found with firearms, ammunition, bullet-resistant vests and other items believed to be linked to organised criminal activity.
Their arrest builds on an earlier breakthrough in the case, when a key suspect, Salim Mohammed, known as Fariwata, was detained on 20 November 2025.
The original incident on 2 November 2024 sent panic through the busy Adabraka market area. Four masked, heavily armed men reportedly stormed the vicinity of a jewellery shop, targeting a man seated in a red Toyota Corolla parked near the market.
Witnesses said the attackers fired several shots into the air, forcing traders and shoppers to flee and abandon their stalls as the robbery unfolded in broad daylight. One person suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
Mr Yohunu said the new arrests were the result of “intensive intelligence operations” and form part of a broader effort to dismantle violent robbery gangs operating in the capital and beyond.
He gave an assurance that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to bringing all those involved in the Adabraka robbery and similar incidents before the courts, and appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support investigations and crime prevention.
