Two midwives arrested over missing newborn at Salaga Hospital

Two midwives have been arrested as police investigate the disappearance of a newborn baby at the Salaga Government Hospital.

The arrest was confirmed by the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwerah Mohammed Ibrahimah, in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

According to the MP, the baby was reported missing around midday.

A formal complaint was later filed at the Salaga Police Station at about 2:00pm.

Hajia Zuwerah said checks with the police confirmed that two midwives had been taken into custody in connection with the matter.

She said they are assisting investigators and are expected to be put before court as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The MP described the development as deeply troubling and said she shares in the anxiety of the affected family.

She assured the family and the public that she is following the matter closely and engaging the relevant authorities to ensure that the facts are established.

Hajia Zuwerah said the priority must be a thorough investigation and justice for the family.

She also appealed to the public to remain calm while the security agencies continue their work.

The MP cautioned against the circulation of unverified information, warning that speculation could interfere with investigations.

She urged residents and the wider public to support the affected family and allow the police to handle the matter professionally.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and I sincerely hope for a swift and positive resolution to this unfortunate situation,” she said.
