A routine enforcement exercise at the Tema Fishing Harbour has led to the arrest of two inshore fishing operators over alleged breaches of fisheries regulations.

The operation was carried out on Monday morning by the Fisheries Enforcement Unit, led by its Coordinator, Commodore Faustina Anokye Boakye.

The two operators were allegedly found working without valid fishing licences.

They were also accused of using fishing gear in a manner that did not comply with approved standards.

After the arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Tema Police for further investigations and possible prosecution.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture said the operation forms part of broader efforts to clamp down on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

It said strict enforcement is necessary to protect Ghana’s marine resources and support sustainable fishing.

The Ministry praised the Fisheries Enforcement Unit for its vigilance and swift response.

It also reminded fishing operators to secure the required licences and use only approved gear.

According to the Ministry, compliance with fisheries laws is essential to safeguarding the future of the sector.
