Two in court over death threat on pastor

The Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to two men accused of threatening the life of a pastor and engaging in offensive conduct likely to provoke a breach of the peace.

The accused, Frederick Ablorh Nmai, a 55-year-old carpenter, and Adjetey Nmai, a 52-year-old fisherman, pleaded not guilty to all charges when they appeared before Her Honour Susana Eduful on Wednesday.

The court admitted each accused person to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000, with two sureties. The sureties must be public servants earning not less than GH¢3,000 monthly.

The case has been adjourned to September 24, 2025, with the court directing the prosecution to file all disclosures and witness statements at least four days before the next sitting.

The men are facing three counts:

Conspiracy to Commit a Crime to wit: Threat of Death, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 75 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Threat of Death, contrary to Section 75 of Act 29.

Offensive Conduct Conducive to the Breach of the Peace, also under Act 29.

According to the prosecution, led by PW/Inspector W. B. Kwafo, the complainant, Pastor Kwadwo Addae, resides at his church premises in Teshie-Aboma.

On July 25, 2025, the accused persons allegedly stormed the church compound around 11:30 a.m., broke eggs on the ground, and threatened the pastor, saying: “If I get you, I will kill you.”

Prosecutors said the threats were issued in the presence of witnesses. The accused also reportedly hurled insults at the pastor, calling him “foolish, stupid, and senseless,” language police argue was calculated to incite a breach of the peace.

Fearing for his safety, Pastor Addae lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects. They were cautioned and charged after investigations.

The case is expected to continue on September 24, 2025, while the accused remain on bail pending further hearing.
