Two arrested over Tumu-Kowie road robbery
The suspects, Seidu Muizu, 20, and Salifu Mutada, 22, were arrested after a robbery reported on May 30 in the Sissala East District.
A swift police operation in the Upper West Region has led to the arrest of two young men suspected of robbing travellers at gunpoint on the Tumu-Kowie road.
The suspects, Seidu Muizu, 20, and Salifu Mutada, 22, were arrested after a robbery reported on May 30 in the Sissala East District.
Police say three people were attacked during the incident and an unregistered Apsonic motorbike was taken from them.
Following intelligence gathered after the attack, officers tracked down the suspects and recovered the stolen motorbike.
Investigators also retrieved another unregistered motorbike, a Loujia model, which police believe may have been used during the robbery.
Both motorbikes have been impounded as part of the investigation.
In a statement issued on June 1, the Upper West Regional Police Command said early findings suggest the suspects may not be linked to only this incident.
According to the Command, information gathered so far points to possible connections between the two suspects and other robberies that have recently disturbed residents in Tumu and nearby communities.
Police say they are expanding investigations to establish whether the suspects were involved in other reported attacks in the area.
The two are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Efforts are also underway to recover the firearm allegedly used in the robbery.
The Upper West Regional Police Command thanked residents for supporting the operation and urged the public to continue sharing timely and credible information with law enforcement agencies.
