The Eastern South Regional Police Command has foiled an alleged assassination plot targeting a prominent chief in the Eastern Region, leading to the arrest of two suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the plan.

The suspects — Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth — were apprehended in a coordinated intelligence-led operation after police intercepted information suggesting plans to eliminate the Chief before his upcoming Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.

A statement issued by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Police Public Affairs Unit, said investigators received credible intelligence on October 11, 2025, which triggered a rapid undercover operation to dismantle the plot.

According to the police, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to operatives posing as hitmen to kill the Chief and a woman who was reportedly being considered for installation as Queen Mother.

Further investigations revealed that Butuakwa Seth was tasked with tracking and confirming the movements of the intended victims. He allegedly guided officers to the homes of both targets and even provided a photograph of the Chief to assist in identifying him.

The suspects are also believed to have promised an additional GH₵50,000 payment once the murders were carried out.

Both suspects have since been taken into police custody and are cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to uncover potential collaborators and the full motive behind the plot.

Authorities have assured the public that security measures have been heightened, particularly around traditional leaders and royal functions in the Eastern Region, to prevent similar incidents.

“The Command remains resolute in ensuring the safety of all residents, especially traditional rulers, as investigations progress,” DSP Fianko-Okyere affirmed.

The two accused individuals are expected to be formally charged and arraigned before court in the coming days.
