Two arrested over alleged lynching of young man at Daboya

Two people have been arrested in connection with the alleged lynching of a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
The suspects are Adjei Abdulai, a 25-year-old carpenter, and Issah Mahama, a 22-year-old student.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The victim, identified as Yibonwura, is alleged to have been attacked after being accused of stealing sheanuts.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that he was severely assaulted and later died from his injuries.
The incident was reportedly captured in a video that has been circulating on social media.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Savannah Regional Police Command said the arrests were made after investigators began probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Savannah Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged lynching of a young man to death at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region,” the statement said.
Police say a third suspect linked to the incident is still at large.
“A manhunt is underway for the third suspect, who is currently at large,” the Command said.
Investigators are also working to establish the full facts of the case and identify any other persons who may have taken part in the alleged attack.
The Police Command said all persons found to be connected to the incident will be made to face the law.
“Investigations are also ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all persons connected to the crime are brought to justice,” the statement added.
