The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has taken decisive disciplinary action against the principals of three technical institutes following verified reports of unauthorised fee collection and extortion at their respective schools.

The affected institutions are:

Agona Swedru Technical Institute – Central Region

Sunyani Technical Institute – Bono Region

Madina Technical Institute – Greater Accra Region

In a statement released by management, the Service said investigations revealed that the schools were charging unapproved fees, including admission levies, boarding protocol fees, charges for changing residential status, fashion practical payments, bedsheet costs, and PTA dues.

The TVET Service stressed that these practices breach the government’s Free TVET Policy, which guarantees free access to technical and vocational education nationwide. Such actions, the statement noted, undermine transparency, fairness, and equity in the admissions process.

To ensure accountability, investigative committees have been constituted to conduct a comprehensive and impartial probe into the matter. The findings of these committees will determine further disciplinary measures.

In the meantime, the affected heads have been placed on 30-day administrative leave effective immediately. Their responsibilities have been reassigned to the following Regional Directors:

Madam Hannah Asamoah, Central Regional Director – Agona Swedru Technical Institute

Mr. Gabriel Gyamfi, Bono Regional Director – Sunyani Technical Institute

Engr. Juliana Nkrumah, Greater Accra Regional Director – Madina Technical Institute

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and extortion, the TVET Service underscored its commitment to upholding accountability, transparency, and fairness in all TVET institutions.

The Service assured the public that robust monitoring mechanisms are being implemented to prevent similar incidents and preserve public trust in Ghana’s technical and vocational education framework.
