The Ministry of Finance has addressed the circulation of a letter regarding Ghana’s negotiations with Trafigura, a global commodities trading firm. The letter, which appeared on social media on September 24, 2024, stirred public debate, with some perceiving it as a sign of government delay in settling the agreement.

In response, the Ministry denied these claims and expressed surprise at the leak, stating that all necessary steps have already been taken to meet the financial obligations agreed upon with Trafigura.

This comes after months of talks between the Ghanaian government and Trafigura over unresolved claims linked to a contract between the two entities. Trafigura, a key player in Ghana's fuel and energy sectors, has been involved in a financial dispute with the government, necessitating careful negotiation to reach an equitable resolution.

The Ministry assured the public of the government's dedication to fulfilling its commitments under the settlement agreement with Trafigura and resolving the issue swiftly.
