The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded Victoria Ogbonna, a 33-year-old Nigerian trader based in Bogoso, into police custody for allegedly attempting to engage in human trafficking.

Ogbonna, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of “attempt to commit crime to wit human trafficking”, is expected to reappear before the court on October 30, 2025.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah, the accused was apprehended after allegedly transporting a young woman from Nigeria to Ghana with the intention of forcing her into prostitution.

The prosecution told the court that on October 6, 2025, around 12:00 p.m., Ogbonna was seen at Kwame Nkrumah Circle with the victim, who has not been named for security reasons. She reportedly lodged the victim at the Driver’s Lodge Hotel, locked her inside a room, and left without any explanation.

An informant, who later became a witness in the case, received intelligence about the situation and, with assistance from others, rescued the victim and handed her over to the police.

During interrogation, Ogbonna admitted to bringing the victim to Ghana but denied any intent to traffic her.

The police say investigations are still ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and any possible accomplices.
