A 42-year-old trader, Adam Zakaria, has been hauled before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly injuring a carpenter by jabbing him in the eye with a walking stick during a heated altercation.

Zakaria, who is facing a charge of causing harm, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Judge Isaac Addo. The court granted him bail in the sum of GH¢50,000, with two sureties, and instructed the prosecution to comply with disclosure obligations.

The Dispute

According to Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, the victim, Eric Djan, a carpenter residing at Danquah Circle in Osu, was contracted by Zakaria in October 2024 to repair a leaking roof. Zakaria reportedly paid GH¢200 upfront, but the work was never completed.

On January 20, 2025, Zakaria confronted Djan at the Danquah Roundabout, seeking answers about the delayed repair. Djan explained that he had been unwell and unable to finish the job.

The verbal exchange reportedly escalated into a confrontation, during which Zakaria is said to have forcefully thrust his walking stick into Djan’s left eye.

Injury and Medical Report

The impact caused severe bleeding. Djan was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital, where medical examinations revealed blurred vision in the affected eye. Doctors later recommended surgical intervention.

Zakaria was arrested on May 8, 2025, following a police investigation into the incident.

The case has been adjourned while investigations continue.
