Three men have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court after being accused of taking part in robberies at jewellery shops in Airport Residential Area and Westlands.

The accused are Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud, also known as Justin Martin, Abubakar Mamoud, and Edgar Donkor. All three pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

Prosecutors say the group was behind two major attacks.

One of the cases relates to a 2025 robbery at a jewellery shop in Westlands, where gold accessories valued at GH¢2 million were allegedly stolen. The second concerns an attack on Rhyme Jewellery at Airport Residential Area on 11 September 2025, during which items worth GH¢1,813,000 were reportedly taken.

Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud is facing an additional charge of causing unlawful damage.

The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of goldsmith Zane Acquaye, who is accused of dishonestly receiving stolen gold valued at GH¢11,400. According to the prosecution, he had been informed to attend court but failed to appear.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Haligah told the court that the robbery at Airport Residential Area was coordinated and deliberate. He alleged that Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud used a pistol to threaten a salesgirl after damaging the shop’s glass door to gain entry.

The prosecution said Janet Nimoh, the salesgirl on duty, raised an alarm but was chased and threatened. Abubakar Mamoud was said to have stayed at the entrance during the attack, while Edgar Donkor allegedly kept watch from outside.

Police say the men collected gold items and escaped on two motorbikes before later sharing the proceeds.

The accused were arrested on 26 March 2026 following intelligence-led operations. Searches at their homes allegedly uncovered masks, a hammer, a toy gun, a gold tester, a weighing scale, gloves, a bolt cutter, a helmet, a GPS tracking device, a jack-knife, pepper spray, a taser, jewellery boxes and motorbikes.

From Donkor’s residence at Osu, investigators also retrieved additional jewellery boxes, watches and a drone, according to the prosecution.

The prosecution opposed bail, arguing that the accused posed a threat to public safety. The court agreed and remanded them into custody.

They are due back in court on 20 May 2026.
