Three nabbed in Savelugu over alleged firearms smuggling

Three individuals have been apprehended in Savelugu, Northern Region, in connection with a suspected arms smuggling operation. The arrests followed a targeted intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Northern Regional Police Command on May 1, 2025.
According to a statement from the Police Public Affairs Directorate, the suspects—identified as Gaba Abdallah Alhassan, Alhassan Abdallah, and Alhassan Abdul Kudus—were picked up from separate locations following coordinated surveillance.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized a cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a submachine gun, a Smith & Wesson SD40 VE pistol, a single-barrel shotgun, and two magazines. Ammunition recovered included 15 rounds for the AK-47, 13 pistol rounds, 27 assorted bullets, and five BB cartridges.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have assured the public that legal proceedings will follow to ensure accountability and justice.
