An Adentan Circuit Court has imposed a fine of GH¢4,000 on each of three people who admitted attacking Nicholas Teye, a teacher at West Africa Senior High School in Adenta.

The court also ordered all three to enter into a bond to keep the peace and maintain good behaviour for the next two years.

In sentencing on Monday, 30 March 2026, the judge said several factors weighed in the decision. Among them was the fact that two of those convicted are students currently writing the ongoing WASSCE examinations. The court also considered that all three had already spent about six weeks in remand after first appearing before it.

The case stems from a February 2026 incident on the WASS campus, where Mr Teye was assaulted after a confrontation involving one of the students reportedly spiralled into violence.

The attack triggered strong public reaction, particularly from teacher unions and other figures in the education sector, who pointed to the case as part of broader concerns over discipline and the safety of staff in schools.

Mr Teye, who suffered injuries in the assault, is said to be recovering.

The hearing drew support from members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers and other educators, some of whom attended court in solidarity with him.
