Three bailed for illegal mining on Asanko Gold Concession
The accused — Fatawu Seidu, a 35-year-old mechanic; Solomon Osei, a 40-year-old barber; and 19-year-old unemployed Simon Awindawu — all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Three individuals accused of engaging in illegal mining at Atwima-Tetrem in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality have been granted bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court. Each was granted bail to the tune of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The accused — Fatawu Seidu, a 35-year-old mechanic; Solomon Osei, a 40-year-old barber; and 19-year-old unemployed Simon Awindawu — all pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court, presided over by His Honour Robert Addo, adjourned the case to May 5, 2025.
According to the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, the case was initiated by police officers who received intelligence on April 8 around 9:20 a.m. regarding unauthorized mining activities on a concession belonging to Asanko Gold Mining Company at Tetrem-Aboabo.
Upon arrival at the site, the officers found the accused in an illegal mining pit. The men attempted to conceal a gold detector and escape, but were subsequently apprehended by the police.
In their caution statements, Seidu and Awindawu reportedly confessed to the illegal mining activity, while Osei claimed he was merely present to observe his friends. Following investigations, the three were formally charged and arraigned before the court.
