The Wholesome Mind Xperience has joined forces with the Mental Health Authority of Ghana (MHA) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) ahead of the 2025 Wholesome Mind Summit, scheduled for World Mental Health Day on Friday, October 10, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

The partnership seeks to expand education on mental health and spotlight the need for better care systems across the country.

This year’s summit in commemoration of World Mental Health Day is under the theme “Psychological Safety in Children and Adults: Catastrophes and Emergencies in Focus.”

The summit will convene mental health professionals, advocates, caregivers, doctors, families, and policymakers to share knowledge on strengthening Ghana’s response to mental health challenges through a series of panel discussions and mindfulness activities to inspire open dialogue and well-being practices.

Central to this year’s efforts is a project to rebuild the Special Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital into Ghana’s first Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The facility will provide safe and dignified care for individuals experiencing mental health emergencies.

Lady-Ann Essuman, Managing Attorney VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, noted: “This partnership bolsters our mission to not only raise awareness but to create real change in the lives of people living with mental health conditions. We are very much particular about the refurbishment of the Special Ward as it is a step toward ensuring that care is delivered in a way that respects dignity and human rights.”

Speaking about this partnership, Dr. Eugene K. Dordoye the Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority of Ghana emphasised the importance of this private-public sector collaboration for a greater good stating[1]  that:

“Mental health is a public health priority and working together allows us to increase access to education, strengthen care systems, and create a massive impact[2]  across communities”.

This year’s focus on the active and consistent integration of mental health into the management of national crises, disasters and emergencies is both timely and essential. MHA is pleased to partner with such a worthwhile cause to address mental health emergencies in Ghana.”

The World Health Organisation has long been at the forefront of advancing inclusive and accessible mental health services, ensuring that support is available to people in all contexts and circumstances. partnership.  Efforts like that of the Wholesome Mind Summit align with their global vision for inclusive and accessible mental health services.

The summit is spearheaded by VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants in collaboration with Mental Health Authority, KPMG and the Restorative Justice of Oakland Youth, U.S.A, who are also leading the nationwide and global fundraising campaign to mobilise individuals, corporations, and development partners to build Ghana’s first Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.

We need a stronger focus on the emergencies subject.

Eg. This year’s focus on the active and consistent integration of mental health into the management of national crises, disasters, and emergencies is both timely and essential. MHA is pleased...

We either go with ‘a massive impact’ or ‘massive impacts’
