TEWU to strike Sep. 19 over delayed conditions of service
The union states that the action will impact staff in Technical and Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).
The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has declared its intention to begin an industrial strike on Thursday, September 19, 2025, over what it describes as continued delays in finalizing Conditions of Service agreements for its members.
The union states that the action will impact staff in Technical and Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).
In a press release dated September 8, TEWU expressed frustration that months of negotiations and repeated reminders to the authorities have produced no meaningful results, leaving workers uncertain and dissatisfied. The union noted that the prolonged inaction has negatively impacted both the welfare and morale of its members, who continue to serve under outdated and vague terms of employment.
“Our patience has run out. The endless postponements are unacceptable, and we have no choice but to escalate this matter,” the statement said.
By embarking on strike action, TEWU hopes to pressure management and the relevant state bodies to speed up the signing and enforcement of the long-awaited Conditions of Service.
