Cephas Okine, a driver’s mate also known as Shatta, has been sentenced to four years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a ram valued at GH₵5,000.

The theft took place early on February 16, 2025, when Okine unlawfully entered the gated compound at Teshie Nungua Estate and took the ram, which had been purchased by IT engineer Richard Thompson for an upcoming program.

Okine pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft before Judge Samuel Bright Acquah, leading to his conviction on his own admission. The prosecution, led by Inspector Shiela Tetteh, revealed that this was not his first offense. In a previous incident, Okine was required by a Teshie court to sign a good-behavior bond on November 19, 2024. However, he breached the bond within three months, prompting a stricter response from the judicial system.

According to reports, residents noticed Okine attempting to drag the ram away from the scene. When they intervened, a search on him uncovered a pair of scissors, further implicating him in the crime. Following his arrest and subsequent interrogation, where he admitted to the offence, the court imposed the four-year sentence as a deterrent to similar acts in the community.
