The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has confiscated 53 pistols, 65 rounds of live ammunition, 74 magazines, and a pistol holster at the Golden Jubilee Terminal within Tema Port. 

The discovery was made during a routine inspection of a 40-foot container labeled MEDU4496951, which was declared to contain vehicles and personal effects. The items had been shipped from the United States of America.

Brigadier Zibrim Ayorrogo, the Commissioner of Customs, addressed journalists on Wednesday, November 20, confirming the seizure and providing details of the operation. According to him, the container arrived at Tema Port and was flagged during an examination conducted on Friday, November 15, 2024. During the inspection, Customs officials, alongside the declarant, agent, and importer’s representative, discovered the firearms and ammunition concealed in three suitcases.

The Customs team promptly reported the matter to the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Intelligence and Investigations Unit and the Preventive Unit of the Customs Division. Upon confirmation, all firearms, ammunition, and magazines were seized, and the remaining contents of the container were thoroughly inspected and detained for further investigation.

The suspects, including the consignee’s representative and the agent, were arrested and handed over to the Marine and Railway Police Station in Tema for further inquiries. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
