Teenager granted GH¢50,000 bail over alleged CCTV burglary
Philip Andrew was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with three sureties.
An 18-year-old accused of breaking into a house at Oduman, near Amasaman, has been granted bail by the Amasaman Circuit Court.
Philip Andrew was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with three sureties.
The court, presided over by Susanna Nyakotey, ordered that one of the sureties must be justified.
Andrew is also required to report to the police once every week.
He pleaded not guilty to unlawfully entering the complainant’s house, damaging CCTV cameras and stealing GH¢7,200.
The case has been adjourned to July 2, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Ibrahim Yakubu, was at work on May 4, 2026, when he received information that his house had been broken into.
He called his wife, who confirmed that their bedroom had been entered and ransacked.
When Mr Yakubu returned home at about 7:30pm, he found that the CCTV cameras had been damaged.
He also discovered that GH¢7,200 he had kept in his wardrobe was missing.
Police said CCTV footage allegedly captured Andrew during the incident.
The complainant later circulated images from the footage in the community to help identify the suspect.
Some residents reportedly identified Andrew, who prosecutors described as an alleged serial burglar.
He was arrested at about 8:00pm the same day and handed over to the police.
The prosecution said Andrew later led police to the scene, where the damaged CCTV cameras were retrieved for evidential purposes.
His mother has since made a partial payment of GH¢9,000 toward the stolen money and damaged items.
