The Tarkwa District Court One has sentenced Stephen Ntiful, a 25-year-old electrician popularly known as Kinata, to one year imprisonment with hard labour after he admitted stealing items worth GH¢8,160 from a local tavern.

Ntiful pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry, and stealing. His accomplice, Victor Boateng alias “Why Me”, is still on the run.

On May 10, 2025, Ntiful and Boateng joined other patrons at Michael Bassuah’s tavern in Tarkwa Banso to watch the Ghana Music Awards.

After closing the tavern at around 3:00 a.m., the complainant went home.

Seizing the opportunity, the duo allegedly broke into the tavern and carted away a Lenovo laptop, a gambling machine, a packet of vodka drinks, two packets of Rothman and Oris cigarettes, and a box of lighters.

The items were later stashed in an uncompleted building where the pair reportedly drank and smoked before parting ways.

When the theft was discovered the next morning, suspicion fell on Ntiful and Boateng. With help from neighbours, the complainant apprehended Ntiful and handed him over to the police.

During interrogation, Ntiful confessed his involvement but claimed he fell asleep after drinking, only to wake up and find Boateng gone with the remaining loot.

The court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah ESQ, convicted Ntiful on his own plea and imposed the custodial sentence.

Boateng remains at large, and police investigations are ongoing.
