Police in the Central Region have apprehended a man linked to the death of a senior academic from the University of Education, Winneba.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was detained on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the lecturer’s residence in Essuokyir, following concerns raised by the victim’s colleagues. Their report to the police came after several failed attempts to contact the lecturer.

Responding to the alert, police officers visited the home and encountered Arthur on the premises. During the initial investigation, officers observed suspicious blood stains, which led them to a nearby sand heap approximately 23 meters away.

After carefully removing the sand, police uncovered a body suspected to be that of the missing lecturer. The remains were promptly taken to the morgue for preservation and post-mortem examination.

Further searches at the scene yielded several items belonging to the deceased, including two Samsung mobile phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television set, and keys to a Toyota Fortuner.

The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that he will be arraigned in court soon.
