He emphasized that such measures are essential for safeguarding the environment, protecting water bodies and forest reserves, and ensuring the well-being of both wildlife and human populations from the threats of pollution, contamination, and preventable harm.
Nana Danso Agyei Ababio, Chief of Nkaseim in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region, has urged mining companies across Ghana to uphold strict adherence to environmental and safety standards.
He emphasized that such measures are essential for safeguarding the environment, protecting water bodies and forest reserves, and ensuring the well-being of both wildlife and human populations from the threats of pollution, contamination, and preventable harm.
Speaking at his palace in Nkaseim during a visit from the management of NADAMUMSA Mining Company Limited, Nana Danso Agyei, who also serves as the President of the Ahafo South Divisional Council, highlighted the importance of responsible mining. NADAMUMSA is currently preparing for large-scale underground gold mining in the area after securing the necessary mining leases and certifications.
The chief underscored that responsible mining must involve all stakeholders, carefully evaluate environmental impacts, prioritize the equitable distribution of economic benefits, and ensure the safety of workers and surrounding communities.
He expressed optimism about the positive impact the company’s operations could bring, including job creation for skilled and unskilled workers and contributions to national development through taxes and dividends. However, he urged the company to maintain high standards of environmental stewardship, ethical practices, and community engagement. He emphasized the need to balance productivity with a commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
Additionally, Nana Danso Agyei called on the company to restore the land once mining activities cease, preserve biodiversity, and maintain constructive relationships with local communities and stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to NADAMUMSA Mining Company Limited for its professionalism and adherence to environmental and safety regulations during the prospecting phase, adding that he expects these standards to continue during full-scale operations.
