Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has accused former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo of breaching her oath of secrecy as a member of the Council of State after she publicly criticized the removal of Gertrude Torkornoo as Chief Justice.

In an interview with TV3 on September 3, Sophia Akuffo argued that Justice Torkornoo was denied a fair process, insisting the allegations against her were too weak to justify her removal.

She further described the proceedings as being conducted like a “treason trial” and warned that the decision had weakened the judiciary.

Responding to these remarks, Kwaku Ansa-Asare said the former Chief Justice had violated the trust placed in her by the public, stressing that by taking the oath of secrecy upon joining the Council of State, she was bound to maintain silence on such internal matters.

He further warned that her actions raise wider concerns about governance, public trust, and accountability in leadership.
