Six security guards arrested over shooting incident involving Adwoa Safo

Six private security guards have been arrested after a shooting incident at Kwabenya in Accra involving former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo.

Police say the arrests followed reports of gunfire at the residence and subsequent investigative action by officers.
In a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit, the Police said officers retrieved several weapons from the scene.
The items included five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
The statement was signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Ms Juliana Obeng.
According to preliminary police findings, personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate were on special duty when they received a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya.
The officers proceeded to the scene.
Police said when they arrived, they established that a ceremony was taking place at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena.
The statement said Adwoa Safo later arrived at the residence and requested access.
She was reportedly denied entry by persons on duty.
Police said the confrontation allegedly led to the discharge of firearms by armed security personnel at the residence.
Adwoa Safo sustained injuries during the incident.
Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.
The six suspects and the retrieved exhibits have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist investigations.
Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest other persons connected to the incident.
The Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
