Six Obuasi Sec tech students arrested over attack on headmaster

Six students of Obuasi Secondary Technical School have been arrested after the school’s headmaster was allegedly attacked during a violent disturbance on campus.

The arrests followed unrest that forced the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to order the indefinite closure of the school.

The closure is a precautionary measure to protect students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and prevent further destruction of property.

The disturbance reportedly began after some students alleged that the headmaster had been seen in a nearby bush burying a fetus.

They further claimed the incident was linked to an alleged abortion involving a student.

The allegations have not been officially confirmed.

Tensions later escalated, with a mob of students allegedly attacking the headmaster.

The students also destroyed three bungalows, vehicles and other valuable property during the disturbance.

Security agencies were called in to restore calm and protect lives and property.

The six arrested students are assisting police with investigations into the alleged assault and the destruction of school property.

The headmaster is reported to have received medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following the attack.

His current condition has not been officially disclosed.

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly says the school will remain closed indefinitely while authorities assess the situation and take steps to prevent further violence.

Police investigations are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the incident and identify all persons involved.
