Shatta Wale pleads guilty in publication of fake news case, fined GHC 2000

Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale has pleaded guilty in the case where he’s been charged for publication of false news in relation to a post he made in October last year, in which he staged an attack on himself. 

He earlier pleaded not guilty but decided to change his plea today, June 29, 2022, asking the court for a lenient sentence.

The Prosecution team, led by ASP Maxwell Oppong, did not oppose the change in plea.

The Circuit court presided over by Emmanuel Essandoh fined the Musician GHC 2000.00, and said in default of payment, he may serve a prison sentence of three months.

Shatta Wale was arrested on October 19, 2021, after he allegedly faked a gunshot attack, following a prophecy that indicated he would be killed by armed robbers on the said day.

He was subsequently remanded to the Ankaful Prison and eventually granted a GHS100,000 self-recognizance bail.

The artiste has since been charged with the publication of false news and causing fear and panic.
