Serial thief sentenced 14 years to jail for stealing cocoa beans

The Tepa Circuit Court has sentenced 38-year-old Isaac Kofi Nti to 14 years in prison, for stealing cocoa beans.

The accused is said to have a record of stealing cocoa beans from raffia drying mats in cocoa-growing communities in the Ahafo-Ano Municipality.

Reports indicate that he has been arrested and fined several times. One time, in 2018, he was accused of stealing cocoa beans and was fined GHC 1,200 by the same court.

Prosecutors informed the court that on February 24, the police received a compliant of cocoa beans theft from a farmer, Charles Kweku Williams. 

Chief Prosecutor, Jonas Newlove Agyei said investigations pointed the theft to the accused and he was subsequently arrested.

Police also say he admitted to stealing the cocoa beans valued at GHC 660.00

In court, he pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced on his own plea by the court preside over by Gwendolyn Millicent Owusu.
