A High Court in Sekondi has removed the injunction that prevented Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from participating in the upcoming parliamentary election.
The court's decision came after the NDC requested the removal of the injunction and dismissal of the initial disqualification. This ruling follows a previous adjournment, where the NDC sought to support Cudjoe's candidacy.
Earlier, an Accra High Court had rejected an application by the NDC aimed at stopping the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballots and the notice of poll, which would have allowed time for resolving the eligibility concerns surrounding Cudjoe.
With the injunction now lifted, the EC can proceed with printing ballots and other necessary materials, including Cudjoe's name on the list of candidates.
Following the court's decision, Edudzi Tamakloe, the lawyer for the defense, urged the EC to follow the court’s directive.
“We are very pleased and grateful to the court. The EC's representative was present in court, and they are fully aware that the injunction has been lifted. Now that this is settled, we expect Madam Jean Mensa to act accordingly,” he stated.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed gratitude and relief after the ruling, feeling as though a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She encouraged her supporters to intensify their campaign efforts leading up to the December 7 election.
