Sedina Tamakloe not under house arrest, says Kwakye Ofosu
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, June 17, he said reports suggesting that she had been moved to a private residence were false.
Government has rejected claims that former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is serving her sentence under house arrest.
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says Madam Tamakloe-Attionu remains in the lawful custody of the Ghana Prison Service.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, June 17, he said reports suggesting that she had been moved to a private residence were false.
“She is in the custody of the Ghana Prison Service,” he said.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the Prison Service has full responsibility for the management, welfare and placement of inmates.
He explained that if any prisoner requires special care, it is the Service that determines the appropriate steps to take.
“They know how to handle people. If somebody needs help there, they know how to take care of her,” he said.
He added that Madam Tamakloe-Attionu is not in any house and is not under house arrest.
“I can assure you and let me put it on record, she is not in any house. She is not under any house arrest,” he stated.
The Minister also challenged IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe to provide evidence for claims that a senior government official had said otherwise.
According to him, anyone making such an assertion must name the official who allegedly provided the information.
“If Franklin Cudjoe tells you that, he is not telling you the truth. Let him name the so-called top government official who told him that,” he said.
On questions about Madam Tamakloe-Attionu’s health, Mr Kwakye Ofosu declined to discuss her medical condition.
He said details about the health of inmates are not matters for public disclosure by government communicators.
“I don’t have information on her medical condition. It is not my place to discuss it,” he said.
He maintained that the Ghana Prison Service is the proper authority to determine how prisoners are managed and where they serve their sentences.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu urged the public to disregard unverified claims about Madam Tamakloe-Attionu’s custody status.
He said any official update on her condition or placement would come from the appropriate state institution.
