Savannah Region: Two arrested over chieftaincy dispute

The incident is said to have stemmed from years ago when a man tried to enskin himself as chief against traditional advice.

Two persons have been arrested in the North-East Gonja District of the Savannah Region for allegedly taking part in a shooting incident that led to casualties.

Two people have been reported dead, five injured and three houses were burnt in the process. 

The incident is said to have happened due to a disagreement over a planned enskinment process.

Reports also say there is a history to the tensions. That it all started when a man decided to settle on an area and enskinned himself as the chief of the community against traditional advice.

“We anticipate that there could be reprisal attacks. You always have to anticipate that once lives were lost and properties were destroyed. Because of that, DISEC is making sure that security is going to be provided both day and night,” Mohammed Musah Tindawu,  District Chief Executive is quoted to have said on Citi Fm.
