Savannah Region: Teacher sentenced seven years to jail for sodomising 18 students

A 32-year-old social studies teacher who was accused of sodomising 18 pupils of the Kulpi Junior High school in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Tamale Circuit Court.

The court presided over by Alexander Oware, sentenced the accused during an in-camera session on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

The accused, Natogmah Yamousa Otabil was arrested on September 27, 2021, following complaints by some family members of the victims.

He was then granted bail on November 4, 2021, after pleading guilty to charges of defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge when the case was transferred from the Salaga Magistrate Court to the Tamale Circuit Court.

The court had also on two occasions rejected a psychiatric report tendered in by his lawyer from both the Pantang and Tamale Teaching Hospitals.
