Runaway tiler jailed two years by Asante Akropong court
Kuffour, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was convicted on his own plea by presiding judge Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.

A 25-year-old tiler, Akwasi Kuffour, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court after admitting to escaping from lawful custody.
Kuffour, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was convicted on his own plea by presiding judge Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.
According to the facts presented by Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the incident traces back to 2023 when Kuffour was initially arraigned before the Akropong District Court on charges of assaulting a public officer, resisting arrest, and causing property damage. He had been remanded into prison custody pending further proceedings.
But just as he was being escorted out of the magistrate’s chambers, Kuffour made a bold dash for freedom and managed to evade police custody, disappearing without a trace.
His luck ran out in April 2024 when he was rearrested at Kumasi-Tanoso after being accused of stealing a mobile phone. During interrogation, he confessed to escaping from custody the previous year.
After concluding investigations, authorities brought him back to court on the escape charge, where he was ultimately convicted and sentenced.
