Robbery of Businesswoman: 2 imprisoned 45, 20 years respectively
The two; an ex-convict, Daniel Bentum and Stephen Dadzie were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, and causing harm to the businesswoman and found guilty at the end of the trial.
The Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced two men to a total of 65 years imprisonment for robbing a businesswoman and inflicting machete wounds on her.
The two; an ex-convict, Daniel Bentum and Stephen Dadzie were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, and causing harm to the businesswoman and found guilty at the end of the trial.
Three accomplices, Justice Nkrumah, Joseph Appiah, and Nana Amoah are however on the run.
Prosecutor, Chief Inspector John Asare Bediakpo told the court that on May 28, 2020, the complainant was driving home after work around 8:30 pm when she saw the first accused near a taxi.
She drove past the taxi but was immediately attacked by Bentum when she stepped out of the car; slashed her right hand with a cutlass and disappeared with her bag.
He continued that after this incident, the complainant victim was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and subsequently reported her ordeal to the police.
Chief Inspector Bediako added that the police later identified the taxi through intelligence and apprehended Bentum and his accomplices at Saltpond on June 18, 2020, when on a similar robbery operation but could however not apprehend three who are on the run.
