President revokes Adwoa Safo’s appointment as Gender Minister
“In accordance with Article 81(a) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Akufo Addo, has revoked the appointment of Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, with immediate effect,"
The President, Nana Akuffo Addo has revoked the appointment of Gender, Children, and Social Protection Minister, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
This was announced in a statement yesterday, July 28, 2022, and signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President.
“In accordance with Article 81(a) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Akufo Addo, has revoked the appointment of Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, with immediate effect," the statement said.
In the interim, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who has been a caretaker minister for the Gender Ministry is to continue to handle the ministry until a substantive minister is appointed.
Sarah Adwoa Safo who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya has been away from Parliament for more than 15 days without permission from the Speaker as stipulated in law.
Subsequently, Adwoa Safo and two other MPs were thus summoned to appear before Parliament’s Privileges Committee due to their long absence from the House.
While the Committee has concluded its report and presented same to the House, Parliament is yet to give its ruling on the matter.
