President receives GBA lifetime award; admonishes lawyers to reliably inform

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has received the first-ever lifetime achievement award of the Ghana Bar Association at their ongoing conference at Kumasi.
As a member of the Association, he is on record to have been the only serving president who has attended all conferences of the Bar as well as his days as a flagbearer and even as an Attorney General, the Bar President noted.
In his speech, President Akufo Addo admonished lawyers to act as a source of reliable information to the public while charging all to help build a Ghana that is free and just for all citizenry.
“It's not just about explaining the law but also about shaping public perception and understanding of the Justice system. The bar must act as a reliable source of information in guarding the public in comprehending complex legal issues.”
He dispelled the notions and accusations of court packing against him noting that this has never been his aim but to fill the court with the best materials we have as a nation.
“If indeed court packing was my goal, it surely would have been completed by now.”
The President thus called on all to consider the recent proposal by the Chief Justice on the need to increase the Supreme Court Justices on its merit and shun the criticisms.
While comparing the Ghanaian apex court to that of the United States, he observed the enormity of work and caseload on our Supreme Court indicating that the Chief Justice's recent proposal is a ‘necessary and well-considered action’ to maintain the strength and efficiency of the Judiciary.
