Police Recruitment fraudster jailed
21-year old Fenuku, also pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea.
The Ho District Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Akosah Amoampong Agyare has sentenced Frank Fenuku the leader of a syndicate in a Police Service recruitment fraud to 18-months imprisonment for defrauding by false pretence.
21-year old Fenuku, also pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea.
The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Clever Ayayee earlier informed the Court that on September 3, 2021, the Police detected a fraudulent Facebook publication purported to have been created by the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng, advertising to assist potential applicants to be enlisted into the Ghana Police Service.
He said unsuspecting applicants fell victim to the scam and sent mobile money to the accused who convinced them that they would be recruited through protocol slots.
This prompted an investigation by the Police into the false publication leading to the arrest of Frank Fenuku at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra.
Chief Inspector Ayayee said the Police retrieved SIM cards with numbers which were displayed in the fraudulent post from Fenuku who admitted being the mastermind behind the scam.
He however pleaded for mercy in court.
Pronouncing the sentence, His Worship, Akosah Amoampong Agyare considered his age and the fact that he was a first-time offender hence his 18-months jail term to serve as deterrent to others.
Meanwhile, the same Court presided over by His Worship, Akosah Amoampong Agyare has remanded the 3 persons suspected of murdering a 30-year old man, Albert Anyinado and attempting to sell his body.
The suspects, Kalefe Korku, 42, Afedo Kpotor, 21 and Ametoke Sitsofe 27 are to reappear before the court on October 28, 2021.
