Police probe two Bolgatanga Girls SHS guards after alleged assault of special needs student
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the GES said the student had suffered a relapse while on medication and needed medical attention on the day of the alleged assault.
Two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School have been interdicted as police investigate the alleged sexual assault of a special needs student at the school.
The Ghana Education Service says the decision is part of immediate administrative measures taken after the incident was reported.
The two watchmen have also been handed over to the Police to assist with investigations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the GES said the student had suffered a relapse while on medication and needed medical attention on the day of the alleged assault.
The Service said the alleged incident occurred during that period.
GES management said it has opened internal processes while allowing the Police to investigate the criminal aspect of the matter.
It said the facts established by the investigations will determine the next steps, including possible sanctions under the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The Service also reminded staff of their duty to protect students, especially those who may require special care or support.
It warned that any conduct that endangers the dignity, safety or wellbeing of students will not be tolerated.
“Management cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” the statement said.
The GES further assured parents, guardians and the public that the matter is being handled with seriousness.
It said the safety and welfare of students remain a priority across all schools.
