The Bono Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a private security guard, identified as Akwasi Addai, who was killed during an armed robbery attack at a filling station in Abesim, a suburb of Sunyani.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2025, at the Frimps Filling Station, according to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer.
Police officers who responded to the scene discovered the victim’s lifeless body on a porch near a shop by the fuel pumps, with visible head injuries, suggesting he had been attacked with a blunt object.
Preliminary findings indicate that the robbers forcibly entered an office used for electricity credit sales and mobile money transactions, escaping with undisclosed amounts of cash. They also ransacked the manager’s office and made a failed attempt to break into a safe.
A crime scene management team later recovered an axe and a blood-stained club, believed to have been used in the assault.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police say they have intensified efforts to track down the suspects and bring them to justice, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring public safety in the municipality.
