Police pick up two suspects over Obuasi robbery plot, attack on Indian businessman
Police say the first suspect, Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as Iddi, was arrested on 16 April 2026 at Bedieso in Obuasi after officers acted on information about a planned robbery.
A police intelligence operation in the Ashanti South Region has led to the arrest of two men accused of taking part in an armed robbery on an Indian national and plotting another attack on a company in Obuasi.
Police say the first suspect, Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as Iddi, was arrested on 16 April 2026 at Bedieso in Obuasi after officers acted on information about a planned robbery.
According to investigators, Fuseini later admitted being part of a six-member gang involved in an earlier attack at New Baakoyeden on 12 April, where an Indian businessman was allegedly robbed of GH¢150,000 at his residence.
Police believe the operation was made possible by insider information. They say a worker identified only as Ibrahim allegedly informed the gang that the victim kept large sums of money at home.
The investigation then widened and led to a second arrest. On 20 April 2026, officers picked up Shaibu Mohammed, also known as SM or Cicinati, at Gausu in Obuasi.
Police say Mohammed also admitted involvement and disclosed that the same gang had been preparing to strike a distribution company located near Mawuli Hotel.
Both suspects are already standing trial before the Obuasi Circuit Court in a separate robbery case involving GH¢600,000.
Investigators have now named other alleged members of the group as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe and Ibrahim, and say efforts are ongoing to track them down.
Police are also searching for a pump-action gun and a locally made pistol believed to be in the possession of the remaining suspects.
