Police investigate killing of 34-year-old at Adubiaho mining site

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the shooting and killing of a 34-year-old miner at the Adubiaho concession within Manso Dome Keniago in the Amansie South District of the region.

Elijah Tinbinkey was shot and killed around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday when a group of illegal miners allegedly stormed the site to prospect for gold.

According to the Public Relation Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo, a security man on duty, who was yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report, fired a warning shot into the air but the bullet mistakenly hit Tinbinkey and killed him instantly.

Attack

In what looked like a reprisal attack, the youth regrouped and invaded the site and in the process injured a Chinese who is a staff of the company.

He was rushed to the Saint Martins Hospital at Agroyesum.

ASP Ahianyo said due to the seriousness of the injury, the Chinese (name unknown for now) was rushed to the theatre for surgery.
