Police clear former New Force spokesperson of criminality
A police clearance certificate issued by the CID’s Criminal Data Services Bureau in October 2025 shows that Ms Abbiusi has never been convicted of any offence in Ghana.
Ghana’s Criminal Investigation Department has formally confirmed that Shalimar Abbiusi, the former spokesperson for The New Force movement, has no criminal record in the country.
A police clearance certificate issued by the CID’s Criminal Data Services Bureau in October 2025 shows that Ms Abbiusi has never been convicted of any offence in Ghana.
The document, valid for six months, states that her name “does not appear in the criminal records of the Ghana Police Service.”
The confirmation follows almost two years of public controversy that began in December 2023, when Ms Abbiusi was arrested over an alleged false declaration relating to her immigration status.
The Ghana Immigration Service later withdrew the charge, but she was again picked up and deported on 19 December 2023 — an action the ECOWAS Court subsequently ruled unlawful.
The CID’s clearance brings official closure to lingering questions raised by the arrest and deportation, which had fuelled partisan debate, social media commentary and speculation about her legal status.
Ms Abbiusi now serves on the Advisory Board of the African Union’s Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC), a role she took up after her successful challenge before the ECOWAS Court.
