Police arrest truck driver over suspected narcotic consignment
The suspect, Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol unit.
A police chase along the Tema-Ada road has led to the arrest of a truck driver accused of transporting large quantities of suspected narcotic substances.
The suspect, Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol unit.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, officers signalled him to stop while he was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck.
He allegedly ignored the signal and attempted to escape.
Police pursued him and later arrested him at Bondase.
A search of the truck uncovered 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The parcels had reportedly been wrapped in sellotape and concealed in a container.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the consignment was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.
The truck and the suspected narcotic substances have been impounded for evidential purposes.
Mr Kpormeno is currently in police custody assisting investigations.
The Tema Regional Police Command said it remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and related crimes.
It urged the public to continue providing credible information on suspicious activities.
